Jimi & Isaac Books

Jimi and Isaac are rock stars.

They're also epic heroes, intellectuals, loving sons, and students in awe of Lipstick, their science teacher.

They are wise and foolish, sublime and earthy. They are middle school boys.

They, and their readers, love discovering why things are the way they are.

Kids of any age that dream great dreams, like books that raise questions,
and that tear things apart just so they can put them back together will love Jimi & Isaac Books.

Jimi & Isaac 1a: School Soccer
Jimi and Isaac may be the best soccer players that ever started middle school. Isaac's dad coached their rec league team while they were growing up, so they've learned pretty much all there is to know about the beautiful game. Except middle school soccer is different, their middle school soccer coach is completely different, and even middle school music is different. Nothing makes sense anymore. But Jimi and Isaac never quit. They don't know how.

Book Report

Jimi was supposed to write a story about soccer, but he put in a bunch of other stuff about music and girls and food. Jimi is well known for not being able to maintain focus. He did put a lot in the book about how I was able to change my game and adapt to the new coach, so I give him credit for that.

Jimi & Isaac 1a: School Soccer is a good book for boys to read because it will prepare them for the endless hassle that is middle school. It's not as easy as they tell you when you're a kid. It's also a good book for girls to read because they will learn how awesome boys are.

- Isaac Farmer

Jimi & Isaac 2a: Keystone Species
Jimi and Isaac think they’re going on a boat ride. A simple vacation with Jimi’s uncle Tim. But hanging around with Uncle Tim is rarely simple.

Soon it’s up to Jimi and Isaac to get things fixed.

Book Report

Jimi & Isaac 2a: Keystone Species is a book by my friend Jimi about how he and his crazy family got us into trouble and I got us out. Jimi's Uncle Tim was supposed take Jimi and me on a boat trip, but instead he got us all almost killed and in prison, just to save some sea otters and salmon and the entire Pacific ecosystem. Jimi did an especially good job describing how I saved everyone.

-Your Hero: Isaac Farmer

Jimi & Isaac 3a: The Mars Mission
Introverted Jimi and brilliant but obnoxious Isaac pester their billionaire buddy Ash Berg into letting them "jazz up" his space expedition. Ash plays along, knowing they will fail and learn from their failure. Issac prefers to make a limited but credible effort and claim a limited but credible victory. Jimi wants more - but good help is hard to find.

Book Report

Jimi & Isaac 3a: The Mars Mission is a book whereby my supposedly best friend Jimi Peterson tells about how he built a space probe that flew to Mars. The whole thing was bought and paid for by the very rich Ash Berg. The book is about us while we're in middle school, but it ends on the first day of high school. It's mostly about how great Jimi is.

Other than the obvious errors that Jimi made like he somehow forgot that the whole thing was my idea, this is a pretty good book for kids to read because there isn't any nudity. If I didn't know about the lying about me part I would like the book because there's a lot of science and thinking involved, and a lot of stuff happens that is mostly pretty real except the part about me.

- Isaac Farmer

Jimi & Isaac 4a: Solar Powered
Isaac Farmer doesn't mind if people think that he's obnoxious. But when people fail to recognize his obvious intellectual superiority, Isaac gets offended. He'll do almost anything to get the recognition he deserves as the "best scientist in the school" – except ask for help.

Book Report

My best friend Isaac Farmer wrote Jimi & Isaac 4a: Solar Powered about how he helped this guy named Weeds invent a whole new kind of solar electrical cell that actually really works pretty well. Isaac says that he wrote the book himself, but I think he had some help because the real Isaac is really obnoxious but the Isaac in this book is only sometimes obnoxious.

Isaac figured the best way to win the science fair was to make the judges think he could save the planet, so he did this big display on “green” stuff. He put in everything he could think of (like solar power and wind power and stream power and outhouse power) and made it sound like it all worked and he understood everything. All he really did was copy stuff off the Internet. It fooled the judges and he won, but then Lipstick and the newspaper guy caught him and the principal got involved and then Mr. and Mrs. Farmer got involved and then Isaac had to actually build something that actually worked.

Jimi and Isaac 4a: Solar Powered is a good book for kids because nobody does drugs or gets pregnant. Isaac talks about dog poop a little, but it's part of the story and he doesn't get too gross. I think he got some help on writing that part, too.

- Jimi Peterson

Jimi & Isaac 5a: The Brain Injury
Kirkus Best Books Kirkus "Star" Best Books of 2015 Reviewed

Isaac always knows the answer. Everything is easy for him. But when his dad falls off the roof, Isaac can't help. He can't fix his dad's brain, he can't fix how helpless his mom feels, and he can't stop making things worse.

Isaac needs to learn to wait, and to accept life as it happens. That's not an easy thing for Isaac.

Book Report:

My friend Isaac is kind of a jerk and kind of a good guy. When Isaac's dad hurt his brain, Isaac got hurt too. He just didn't know it right away, and then we didn't do a good job helping him, either.

Jimi & Isaac 5a: The Brain Injury isn't one of those “happy ever after and everyone gets a cookie” kinds of stories. It's more like real life. Sometimes you don't get a cookie. Sometimes you go hungry.
